Israel was exceptionally bright and thoughtful, yet life was far from easy for him. His speech challenge often isolated him, and as the only child of Holocaust survivors, he moved through life without the steady companionship many children naturally receive.
He once shared that the deepest pain of his speech struggle was knowing that, from the age of five, no friend ever stayed longer than a month.
